چکیده

Introduction Assessment of the mating system of a crop is particularly important for the design of adequate breeding and genetic conservation programs. Genetic inbreeding and heterosis, important factors that affect the production of the crop, are related to the mating system. Brassica napus L. includes economically important crops, such as oilseed rape, rutabaga and leaf rape. B. napus is considered as an autogamous species, although in field conditions it has a variable outcrossing rate, between 20 and 40% (Becker et al., 1992; Damgaard and Loeschcke, 1994). These estimates had been based on morphological traits or isoenzyme analysis. At present, accurate estimates of outcrossing rates can be obtained using multilocus approaches. Also the estimates of outcrossing rates in the field are subjected to environmental variation. The objective of this work is to study the outcrossing rate in Brassica napus L. cultivated under controlled conditions using a SSR multilocus approach.

Reproductive phenology of transgenic Brassica napus cultivars: Effect on intraspecific gene flow.

Pollen-mediated gene flow in space is well documented and isolation distances are recommended to ensure genetic purity of Brassica napus seed crops. Isolation in time could also contribute to gene flow management but has been little investigated. We assessed the effects of asynchronous and synchronous flowering on intraspecific B. napus gene flow by seeding adjacent plots of transgenic spring c...

Molecular Cloning and Characterization of a Putative BnHEC3 Gene in Oilseed Rape (Brassica Napus)

HECATE3 (HEC3) is an important transcription factor involved in regulating the carpel and transmitting tract development in Arabidopsis thaliana. The homologous gene of HEC3 in Brassica napus (designed as BnHEC3) was obtained by in silico cloning and rapid amplification of cDNA end (RACE) method. BnHEC3 obtained from cDNA is of 748 bp, containing an open reading frame (ORF) of 546bp and coding ...

Glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase 4 is essential for the normal development of reproductive organs and the embryo in Brassica napus

The enzyme sn-glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase 4 (GPAT4) is involved in the biosynthesis of plant lipid poly-esters. The present study further characterizes the enzymatic activities of three endoplasmic reticulum-bound GPAT4 isoforms of Brassica napus and examines their roles in the development of reproductive organs and the embryo. All three BnGPAT4 isoforms exhibited sn-2 acyltransferase ...

Molecular Genetics of Mitochondrial Respiratory/ATP-Related Genes in Relation to Cytoplasmic Male-Sterility of Higher Plants

With the sequencing of the entire mitochondrial genome for some species, including Arabidopsis thaliana, Brassica napus, Beta vulgaris, Marchantia polymorpha, Oryza sativa, and Zea mays it is promising to explore the molecular genetics of mitochondrial respiratoryrelated genes in relation to some special traits with an emphasis on cytoplasmic male-sterility unique to plant mitochondria. Mitocho...

Development of a Statistical Crop Model to Explain the Relationship between Seed Yield and Phenotypic Diversity within the Brassica napus Genepool

Plants are extremely versatile organisms that respond to the environment in which they find themselves, but a large part of their development is under genetic regulation. The links between developmental parameters and yield are poorly understood in oilseed rape; understanding this relationship will help growers to predict their yields more accurately and breeders to focus on traits that may lea...
